I just came back from 17 day’s of pure pleasure. Anywhere above 0 this time of year is heaven, as winter in Winnipeg has been very cold this year. I went on a 11 night cruise with Royal Caribbean “Legend of the Seas” out of Fort Lauderdale. Then upon our return rented a car and drove the overseas highway down to key west. What a adventure, I had a fabulous time! The ship had a mini golf course, rock climbing wall and a outdoor movie screen, which was awesome for movies at night. The food was excellent and I stuffed myself full of fresh salads and fruits, and a little treat everyday. I’m happy to say I didn’t put any weight on! LOL I took over 1300 images, so needless to say I’ll only share a few of my favourites with you. Starting with our first stop… Aruba, I was surprised that it’s a desert Island, with many cactus. I thought for a minute we ended up in Arizona!
We took a tour on this funky bus around part of the island, no windows…just natural air conditioning!
Managed to do a little shopping in the port. I was in the market for a new watch and thought a “michele” watch would be NICE…. well until I saw the price tag! Kind of neat to see my name on a banner beside Dior, and they spelt it right!
Bonaire, another desert Island…. It’s know for it’s wild Flamingos. I saw a group in the distance but not even worth a photo…. On our tour of the island we viewed the salt mines. Hard to believe, how high these salt piles are.
This view was on the opposite side of the road from salt hills.
The slaves slept in these tiny huts.
Crushed coral is everywhere
This fence should keep unwanted visitors out!
Grenada is our next stop, the island kind of smells like spices! Cocoa pods, cinnamon and nutmeg are all exported from this Island paradise. I sure hope it’s cinnamon I purchased!
This is what cocoa pods look like off the tree.
St. Lucia – lush and oh so tropical!
Amazing Orchids, just hanging in mid air.
Barbadoes – beautiful view’s to take in.
Labadee Haiti – day at the beach!
These guy’s entertained us all afternoon…. love those steel drums!
The drive from Fort Lauderdale to Key West was fabulous, It’s one of the nicest highway’s I’ve been on (sorry Pacific coast hwy is still #1 for me) I have no idea how many bridges we went over, but the view’s from the restaurants in Key Largo and our hotel shown below were breath taking! I got up before sunrise to capture this image.
You can’t go to Key West and miss the Hogs Breath cafe. They have live streaming camera’s so your friends back home can watch you. Which is exactly what I did!
Only one way to see Key West, that is the trolley tour. You get a bit of history and they do the driving!
Great photos, am very jealous!
